Foundations First: Why Technique Takes Time

It really is best if students and parents take the time to carefully set up posture, bow hand, and left-hand shape. If we don’t, we often end up spending more time later correcting it.

As a Suzuki Mom myself to a violinist kid, I am seeing this play out right now. We are working on correcting alignment in my child’s left hand in relation to the fingerboard. It is taking time and requires a lot of patience, humility, and deliberate, attentive work.

If only we had slowed down a little…

And yet, it is also true that this work is worth it. The time we spend building solid foundations is never wasted—it simply shows up later as ease, confidence, and stability.

Take a deep breath and enjoy the adventure. :)
