Hi all! I have been discovering the coolest things about our Suzuki culture. Not only are teachers, students, and parents immersed in the wonderful educational process and community, but the culture also supports small business incubation!

It is a story lost to time: an artist or craftsman trains their young assistant in their art. The assistant becomes an intern or mentee, and then steps into the role of teacher with support from their mentor.

The student becomes the teacher, and the teacher becomes a mentor.

This is how we do things! It is fabulous that in this worried economy, a young musician can start their own business with low start-up costs. There is no need to go to college or to take out student loans!

The Suzuki Association of Utah (SAU) and The Suzuki Association of the Americas (SAA) support teachers by providing high quality training and support for every part of a teacher’s small business (studio) start-up process.

A teacher can put out a shingle in their own neighborhood and contribute right away to their community economically. This new teacher continues to develop leadership and step into mentorship as their career progresses.

See my next blog for more on how Suzuki culture supports teachers as they step into leadership in their communities. Also see my blog post on how the Suzuki culture creates a continuous pipeline of performers and audience members: we are an economic engine in performing arts communities in more than one way!
